On the corner of Blossom St. and Folgate St. is the Water Poet, a Victorian corner pub that is like something out of Ripper Street (the BBC drama). Expect hipsters in skinny jeans sporting moustaches that could be used as tightrope walkers’ poles, gaudy, rich décor, craft beers and good food. There is a pool room with two pool tables, some lush dining and function spaces, a great beer garden (complete with BBQ for the summer), cinema screenings, quizzes, comedy, gin tastings, swing dance classes and more. If you can’t find something you like at this place, then you’re in the wrong part of town. It can feel on the gimmicky side of east London, but if you’re in the area for a short time then it’s a must.
