Everyone knows Sherlock Holmes; and whether you’re in the Robert Downey Jr. camp or the Benedict Cumberbatch camp, all will agree he’s a mesmerising authority and linked inextricably to London. No wonder, then, that a Sherlock Holmes pub sprung up at some point, and with input and assistance from the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, what more could you want?

Not only does the pub appear in a Sherlock Holmes story, but the exhibition that was originally housed there still stands, and every effort has been made to maintain the authenticity of late-Victorian/early 20th century pub atmosphere. The restaurant, which looks over “the study” (where all of the Holmes artefacts are laid out), serves averagely priced and flavoured pub grub but has a great view and is worth a visit. There’s also a roof garden for smokers and anyone who wants a lovely warm evening’s drink in the bustling heart of London.
