Secret London: Heathrow Airport
Little Known Facts about Heathrow Airport
The original terminals at Heathrow Airport were built in the centre of the site because air travel was so expensive at the time that it was thought that only chauffeur-driven wealthy people would use Heathrow! They didn’t think there would be a need for much parking!
In 1983 over £26.00 million in gold bars were stolen from the Brink’s Mat vault near Heathrow. Hardly any of the gold was recovered and only 2 men were ever convicted of the crime.
The first ever European commercial flight of the massive Airbus A380 flew into Heathrow Airport on 18th March 2008.
Terminal 5 is as big as Hyde Park and you can fit 50 football pitches inside the main building!
