Little Known Facts about Acton
Acton was the birthplace of The Who, of which, all members except Keith Moon went to Acton High School.
The Monty Python sketch ‘Bicycle Repair Man’ was shot on Churchfield Road, whilst part of the sketch ‘Hell’s Grannies’ was shot on Acton High Street.
Corfe Tower, on the South Acton Estate, is the block of flats seen in the opening credits of ‘Only Fools and Horses’.
The first Waitrose store was in Acton. Originally called ‘Waite, Rose and Taylor’, it opened in 1904 at 263 Acton Hill, commemorated today by a metal plaque on the pavement outside.
Scenes from the 1986 film ‘Aliens’ and the 1989 film ‘Batman’, were shot inside the disused Acton Power Station.
