Westminster Attractions
You couldn’t be in a more famous part of town, or in an area with as many hugely important historic buildings crammed into such a small area, when you stay in Westminster. Recommended Attraction in Westminster
What will we go for? Will it be Parliament? Downing Street? Big Ben? Westminster Abbey? The cathedral? Whitehall? Surprisingly, none of these. They are, of course, mega attractions, the like of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. But they’re not exactly the most secret of places to go, and there’s a great deal of hidden wonder to be found with a bit of looking.
Of all of the hidden treasures underneath Westminster, arguably the most exciting, covert and secret is an attraction that was built to be just those things: Churchill’s War Rooms. A series of tunnels, warrens and rooms that were once a 24-hour station of planning, plotting and total secrecy, the war rooms are retained much as they were originally left during the Second World War. As part of the Imperial War Museum, the rooms are maintained excellently, and you can immerse yourself in the covert world of wartime espionage that helped win World War II.
Alternative Things To Do in Westminster
You can visit Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey, plus see where William and Kate got married, or pay a trip to the historical marvel that is Westminster Cathedral; the site has been of religious significance for millennia. There are the Houses of Parliament, of course, and when Parliament’s recessed there are some great opportunities to go on a tour of the Palace of Westminster. You could check out where the Prime Minister lives, though not inside, of course!
