Places to see in London Shepherds Bush
Shepherds Bush Attractions
Shepherds Bush went from humble beginnings, literally as a place for shepherds to rest on their way to Spitalfields Market, to the site of many of London’s most important historic events and greatest institutions. It was the site of the 1908 Olympics, the Franco-British Exhibition the same year, the Japan-British Exhibition two years later, and now it has a Westfield! Therefore, you won’t be stuck for things to do. Strolling through Shepherds Bush Green, around which the area sprang in the late 19th century, is a lovely way to relax before going about your day of sightseeing!
Recommended Attraction in Shepherds Bush
We’ve opted for live music, principally because of the venue. Bush Hall was built in 1904 as a music hall and a dance hall (the “music halls” of that time were a great London tradition) before being used as almost everything else in between. It has been reclaimed as a music and dance hall and very successfully runs one of London’s best live music calendars. Tickets are cheap and you can be assured that in a couple of years time, you’ll be able to say to your friends: “I saw that multi-million double-platinum artist when they were just starting out at Bush Hall”.
Alternative Things To Do in Shepherds Bush
You’re not stuck for choices, put it that way. There’s the BBC’s White City, which though having been sold, still retains a large amount of its production force in the building and has a high broadcast output. There’s the Lord Leighton Museum; a small but immensely opulent museum on the edge of Holland Park. There’s the Louis T Blouin Institute, which specialises in the link between art and neuroscience (definitely worth a look), and of course you have Westfield for all your shopping needs!
