How to get around West Kensington
West Kensington Tube
One of the great things about West Kensington is its tube network. It has three tube stations for you to choose from, so you’ll find it incredibly easy to travel around London. All three (Kensington Olympia, West Kensington and Barons Court) are on the District Line, with the latter also on the Piccadilly Line. You can get to South Kensington to visit its famous museums in 6 minutes. You can reach Notting Hill Gate to explore the Portobello Road Market, or exclusive Harrods in Knightsbridge, in 9 minutes. Even the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, the London Eye at Waterloo and Covent Garden Market near Covent Garden Tube Station are only 15 minutes away.
West Kensington Parking
As West Kensington is outside the congestion charging zone you might want to bring your car here. Unfortunately, most London hotels don’t have the luxury of enough space for a car park, but you can park your car in an NCP car park nearby. You’ll find an underground NCP car park at the London Olympia Hilton and an undercover car park at Broadwood Terrace just off of Pembroke Road.
West Kensington Taxis
Taxis are an alternative method of transport in and around West Kensington. You can make the most of the taxi rank outside Kensington Olympia Train Station, or use cab companies in the area. This includes Olympia Centres West in North End Road, which is really close to West Kensington Tube Station.
West Kensington On Foot
The major advantage to staying in West Kensington, apart from the price of hotel rooms, is just how many of London’s major attractions surround it. If you start out on foot from West Kensington Tube Station you can walk to the Lyric Theatre and Hammersmith Apollo in nearby Hammersmith in 20 minutes. You will also find another hugely popular entertainment venue 25 minutes away – the Shepherds Bush Empire. If you’re a Chelsea FC fan you’ll be delighted to know that Stamford Bridge Football Ground is a mere 20 minute stroll away. Star attractions like Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens are also well within your grasp – a 30 minute walk away. Even the huge Natural History, Science and Victoria and Albert Museums in South Kensington are only 27 minutes away!
