How to get around Charing Cross
Charing Cross Train
Charing Cross Train Station is popular with commuters and tourists alike, with Southeastern operating trains through London down to Kent. It takes just 5 minutes to get to Waterloo East for fun on the South Bank on the London Eye, and a further 5 minutes to continue on to London Bridge for foodie heaven at Borough Market. In a 50-minute journey you can get to Greenhithe for Bluewater Shopping Centre and retail therapy aplenty! It takes just over an hour and a half to get to Hastings for a day by the sea, and in 1 hour 18 minutes you can travel to Ashford International for the Eurostar.
Charing Cross Tube
Charing Cross Tube Station is served by the Bakerloo and Northern lines, making it easy for you to explore all that London has to offer. Take a 5-minute tube on the Bakerloo Line to Oxford Circus and you’ll be able to shop ‘til you drop on Oxford Street and Regents Street. Travel around 10 minutes on the Bakerloo Line to Baker Street and you’ll be able to mingle with the stars at the world famous Madame Tussauds and visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum. You could also travel 15 minutes on the Northern Line to Camden Town Tube Station if you’re looking for a more diverse experience. The bohemian area of Camden Town is a great place to just walk around in, and you could also visit its famous market and array of bars and cafes.
Charing Cross Parking
Whilst the easy option is to travel to Charing Cross on either the main rail network or London Underground, there is car parking available in the surrounding area. You could try St Martin’s Lane NCP or Trafalgar Masterpark, both of which are only 5 minutes walk from Charing Cross Station.
Charing Cross Taxis
If travelling on the London Underground doesn’t appeal to you, you’ll find it easy to hail a black cab in Charing Cross, as with all areas of Central London. As London Charing Cross is a mainline station there is a large taxi rank outside it, where you’ll always find a range of taxis. You could also call one of the independent taxi companies that operate in the area including Airport Cars, located nearby on Embankment Place.
Charing Cross On Foot
As well as a huge number of attractions that are virtually on top of each other in and around Charing Cross, there are plenty of other famous places reachable on foot. If you begin at Charing Cross Station, you can walk past Trafalgar Square and keep on going into vibrant Leicester Square, just a 7 minute walk away. You could also walk to the chic area of Covent Garden in around 8 minutes and take advantage of a range of excellent designer shops, bars and restaurants. Another fascinating part of London is Soho, which takes around 12 minutes to walk to. In this lively cosmopolitan area you’ll find fashionable boutiques in Carnaby Street and a range of bars and restaurants. In fact, Charing Cross is so accessible to all areas you could even walk to the London Eye, plus Westminster and the famous attractions there such as the Houses of Parliament, in only 13 minutes.
