Where is Kings Cross?

Where is Kings Cross

Most people think Kings Cross is just a train station in London, but it’s actually an entire inner city district of North Central London! Spanning the boroughs of Camden and Islington, Kings Cross is just outside the congestion zone in tube zone 1, surrounded by places like Camden Town, Islington, Holloway and Bloomsbury. Kings Cross is home to 3 major train stations - Kings Cross, Euston and the beautiful St Pancras. You’ll also find London’s largest tube station, Kings Cross St Pancras here making it a great base for your stay in London.

History of Kings Cross

History of Kings Cross

Kings Cross sits on the site of the ancient village of Battle Bridge. Its current name can be attributed to a hugely unpopular 60ft cross memorial to King George IV that was erected in 1835, where Kings Cross Train Station now stands. Throughout the industrial revolution both Kings Cross and St Pancras train stations were built to transport goods across Britain, making Kings Cross an incredibly busy yet poor industrial district. It fell into rack and ruin after World War II, and quickly gained a reputation as a rundown area to avoid during the 1980’s.

Thanks to an influx of artists, government funding for massive regeneration projects like Kings Cross Central, and the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link at St Pancras Train Station, Kings Cross is quickly re-establishing itself as one of the most important transportation hubs in London. As cultural establishments like the British Library and the Gagosian Art Gallery have also moved into the area, Kings Cross is fast becoming a popular tourist destination too!

There’s an aura of change in Kings Cross that make it an exciting and interesting place for you to visit.
