The Punchbowl, London
The Punchbowl
The celebrity association that The Punchbowl has for being owned by Guy Ritchie does not mean that it’s full of a load of budding actors waiting on the doorstep hoping for a shot at glory. It is, in fact, just your average traditional pub, with a good range of ales and some excellent food. Perhaps on the pricier side of London pub drinking, nonetheless the hand of the Sherlock Holmes director isn’t far away in the strong décor and large upstairs dining rooms.
Encouragingly, it’s a hit with the local residents and those who work in the surrounding area, and is uniformly busy on weeknights and weekends. Booking a table to eat is a good idea, especially if you want to visit at the weekend, but just roaming in that area and going in by happenchance is also a good idea, and it will transport you into the bygone era of Victorian boozing.
