Anyone who’s had even a tacit involvement in the theatre in London will know of the Players Bar, secreted along the low arches off Villiers Street. The atmosphere is musical, in many senses of the word, with a pianist-singer playing musical theatre and jazz renditions of hit songs every night and the clientele in large part being from London’s theatre professional contingent. There’s a good menu, well-priced drinks and a good-time vibe. We’ve never been in there and not made a new friend, and that isn’t an exaggeration. If you’re after a decadent night of the heady thrills of the showbiz world (and you’re on a budget) then we strongly recommend giving this place a go. It’s not very big, so get there early if you want a table and come midnight you’ll be getting involved in your very own, 100-strong Elton John singalong. Altogether a great night out.
