Le QuecumBar, London
Le QuecumBar
With a welcoming, French salon feel and all of the trappings of a brasserie from 1920s Paris (somewhere near Pigalle, probably), Le QuecumBar exudes the scent of home cooking and the nostalgic jangling of Gypsy Jazz. Principally inspired by the virtuosic strummer Django Reinhardt and his erstwhile fiddling companion Stefan Grappelli, music is on every day of the week. Some concerts are ticketed, and typically get up to a maximum price of £8, so taking a date to this deeply impressive and uniquely atmospheric venue is definitely not going to break the bank, but definitely is going to win you some serious culture points. Encouragingly, everything about Le QuecumBar has been done with love and authenticity; there’s no gimmicky, faux-Parisian consumerism here; it’s a quant, secret(ish) little bar with everything you could possibly want for a night of gypsy jazz, food and drink.
