This Bierkeller (beer cellar) definitely walks the knife-edge between gimmick and great fun, but if you’re not too prudish, it’s definitely a slapdash night of fun. Downstairs off a barely labelled stretch of Southwark High Street is a hall of Oompah music, steins over-flowing with Bavarian beer, staff clad in Lederhosen (this is where the gimmick stretches a little far) and the smell of grilled bratwurst filling the air. The tables are long and offer customers a great chance to get a drink with strangers, as there are few single tables in the place. Pricing is average for London, but you’re also paying for novelty; and that’s not a bad thing with such a fun venue as a Katzenjammers.
