Visit Windsor Castle – The Queen’s official residence
Buckingham Palace may be the residence people most associate with the queen, but in actual fact she spends most of her time at Windsor Castle – her official residence.
This fairytale castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and is certainly worth a visit for people who are enjoying a holiday in the capital.
Windsor Castle was built more than 900 years ago and stands proudly in the middle of stunning surroundings, which are breathtaking at any time of year.
Currently on show at the castle is a special exhibition entitled The Queen: 60 Photographs for 60 Years – which celebrates Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.
Visitors will also enjoy exploring the castle’s magnificent state apartments, which feature a whole host of treasures taken straight from the Royal Collection. Art lovers will be delighted by many of the pieces, with highlights including works by Rubens, Holbein, Brueghel and Van Dyck.
