It was first established in 1897 from the private collection of Richard Seymour-Conway, 4th Marquess of Hertford, who left his art and house to his illegitimate son.
Now there are 25 galleries to explore with works ranging from the 15th century to the 19th century.
One of the highlights of the free attraction is the large selection of French 18th century paintings.
