A cultural and religious celebration, Thanksgiving’s roots go back to a three-day feast in 1621 that saw pilgrims and Native Americans join together to commemorate their successful harvest. However, it was not to become an annual event until the Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln confirmed the national holiday a day of "thanksgiving and praise".
