Finborough Theatre, London
Finborough Theatre
Originally built as a pub in 1868, the venue has vacillated between pub, restaurant, brasserie and theatre, finally unifying it all in 2014. The Finborough Theatre is upstairs, with the Finborough Arms back in its original public house venue beneath. The theatre is tiny, even by theatre-above-a-pub standards, but highly respected nonetheless. At only 50 seats, this venue is as intimate as theatre gets, and the quality of the work is beyond dispute. The theatre both produces with a handpicked selection of professionals and receives productions, and doing the two gives it an extra level of uniqueness. Typically, the fare is new writing, including new plays from the English-speaking world, as well as the odd translation and revival.
