Londoners gear up for papal visit People visiting London later this month will be given a rare chance to see the Pope as he makes a papal visit to the UK. After visiting Scotland, Pope Benedict XVI will embark on a trip to the capital where he is scheduled to make number of public appearances the first of which occurring on September 17th 2010. His Holiness will begin his visit with a prayer at St Mary's University College with representatives of a number of religious congregations; he will then meet with children and young people to discuss Catholic education in a meeting that will be broadcast on the internet.

In the afternoon, a meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury has been scheduled before the Pope takes evening prayer at Westminster Abbey.
On Saturday, His Holiness will attend the celebration of Mass at Westminster Cathedral before heading off to meet older people in St Peter's. After that he will join in a vigil at Hyde Park and address a crowd, which is expected to consist of thousands people. It is the first time in 28 years that the UK has hosted a papal visit, with Pope John-Paul II the last to come in the summer of 1982.
