Hermits Croft is a modern, medium-sized block of flats built by the University in 1996 as part of a wider partnership with the City of Edinburgh and local Housing Associations. This has also seen the development and revitalisation of a large former goods yard, which dated back to the original Edinburgh to Dalkeith railway, opened in 1834.

The site is conveniently located within just a few minutes' walk of George Square and the Holyrood campus, with Pollock Halls just 'down the road'. This block is designated as completely non-smoking. Hermits Croft provides comfortable single-bedroom accommodation, with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities, in 5-person flats. As with all Edinburgh University flats, good local shopping and entertainment facilities are close at hand, with easy access to all main bus routes.
