Budget Backpackers – the name says it all! If you’re on a budget and you’re coming to Edinburgh you have to stay here! This bright and funky no curfew hostel overlooks Edinburgh Castle from its chill out lounge with comfy sofas and plasma TV. You get a similar view from the dining room where you can chat to other travellers or play pool. When you need to contact people you can use the internet PC’s at the 24 hour reception, or the payphones. Use the free tourist information to plan your stay.

 Most rooms at Budget Backpackers are spacious shared dormitory rooms with 4-12 beds in them. If you’re a lone female traveller the female only dorms and security card swipe system will help you to feel secure. There are a few twin private rooms too. You will find big lockers in your room to store your baggage and free padlocks are available for a £5 deposit. There are plenty of modern shower rooms and toilets, as well as four contemporary kitchens filled with all the cooking facilities you need.

Budget Backpackers is situated in the heart of the Old Town of Edinburgh, so you will be surrounded by tourist attractions. You can walk to Edinburgh Castle, stopping at the Tartan Weaving Mill or the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre on the way. You will also find Greyfriars Kirk nearby, with some of the most fantastic funerary sculpture in Britain, as well as the Museum of Scotland and the Royal Museum of Scotland. Nightlife hotspots such as Grassmarket and The Royal Mile are really close by.

• By Train : To get to Budget Backpackers on the train you should travel to Waverley Train Station. It won’t take you long to walk from here to the hostel.
• On Foot : When you get to Waverley Train Station exit onto Waverley Bridge and turn to your left. Start walking and turn right onto Market Street. Walk up the hill until the end and then turn left onto North Bank Street. Take a right onto George IV Bridge and then take another right onto Victoria Street. Follow this road round onto West Bow and then turn left onto Cowgate. Budget Backpackers is on the corner of Candlemakers Row.
