Monday 21st Jan 2013 Nothing beats a bit of laughter to beat the Monday blues, so head down to the The College Arms in Soho for #LoliedUp, hosted by LaughterShock Comedy. The free evening of entertainment is hosted by Miss Lolie Ware, who will introduce seven of the best up-and-coming comedians on the capital's circuit. These include Damian Kingsley, Philip Jones, Madge Hooks and Emily Rose, with Norman Lovett headlining the proceedings. Music is to be provided by Warren Fox.

Tuesday 22nd Jan 2013 Some of Britain's best emerging acoustic artists are providing a night of free entertainment on January 22nd at The Old Red Lion in Kennington, as part of The Survival Tour. Topping the bill is Sam Russo, with support coming from El Morgan, Giles Bidder of the band Great Cynics, Kelly Kemp, Roo Pescod of Bangers and Helen Chambers. However, the line-up is likely to be jumbled up on the night, with many of the artists collaborating on specific songs.

Wednesday 23rd Jan 2013 Those who enjoy the art of spoken word should visit Shoreditch's Rich Mix for a free evening of open mic performances, poetry and film shorts. Jawdance is hosted by Mr Gee and kicks off at 19:30 GMT, and those who feel up to performing should make sure they get down there early in order to secure one of the very popular spots.
Thursday 24th Jan 2013 History buffs should head down to the National Army Museum on January 24th for a special lunchtime lecture hosted by Dr Halik Kochanski, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. His talk entitled The Eagle Unbowed: Poland And The Poles In The Second World War will look at the fate of the Polish people that found themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place when in the autumn of 1939 following the dissolution of its army the country was portioned between the Nazi and Soviet regimes. The Republic in which they used to live ceased to exist and those left behind faced racial violence and ideals of ideological conformity that led to the deaths of millions of Poles. The lecture begins at 12.30 GMT.
Friday 25th Jan 2013 Wilton's Music Hall in Aldgate is hosting the Global Beats Festival during the venue's second international music week. Running from January 21st to January 26th, it will see a wide variety of uplifting music from around the world coming to the venue's main room to celebrate the cultural diversity of Britain's capital. Each day there is a different musician from a different country performing, all chosen by the curators and hosts Planetman. On the Friday Francesco Filizzola & Colomboloco will be representing Italy, bringing their blend of classical and folk music styles that are typical of the area in southern Italy where frontman Filizzola grew up. Colomboloco, his band, features a number Italian and Spanish musicians, who provide a bustling fusion-roots soundtrack to his music. The music kicks off at around 20:00 GMT and it is completely free to attend.
Saturday 26th Jan 2013 Visitors to London who want to dance away their Saturday night to some wonderful Caribbean vibes should head down to the InSpiral Lounge in Camden for Reggae Rocks. Resident DJ Toby Ranks will be playing a mix of classic revival, new roots, early dancehall, dubstep, ska and dub, with popular host and vocalist Ramon Judah adding his meaningful lyrics to the tunes. Entry is free and doors open at 21:00 GMT, running on to 01:30 GMT.
Sunday 27th Jan 2013 People travelling to London with young children among them should head down to the South London Gallery in Peckham on January 27th for The Sunday Spot. It is a hands-on workshop specifically aimed at those aged three to 12 to explore the current exhibitions at the gallery in a more interactive way.
